The Conservation Commission is thrilled to welcome in the New Year with a visit from Sam Schneski, Windham County Forester. On February 1, 2023, 6:00PM, at the Dummerston Community Center, Sam will give us the full story on a new land use category called “Reserve Forestland.” This change will allow landowners to develop old forest conditions on their property while participating in the Use Value Appraisal program (a tax-incentive program in Vermont that allows landowners to receive lower property tax rates in exchange for keeping their forests and agricultural lands from being developed). Approximately 40% of the land in Dummerston is enrolled in the Current Use Program.
