The 4th grade students from Dummerston School explore the Salmon Brook with Joan Carey, an environmental educator from BEEC. In conjunction with their social studies unit on mill towns in New England, Molly Stoner’s class studied the velocity of the the Salmon Brook in various locations, as they researched what the best location for a hypothetical waterwheel would be. The students are participating in a school wide project on aquatic ecosystems and water justice, sponsored in part by the Dummerston Conservation Commission. They are using inquiry based science to learn about their local environment.
