Fridays, February 8, 15 & March 1, 8 10 am-noon Evening Star Grange
Learn about the emerging field of genomics and how it informs conservation. Our invited scientists bring their own experiences with genomic studies of plants and animals common to New England and beyond. Learn about:
* Canada Lynx population spread
* How Salamanders adapt to evolving habitat
* Applications to marine species, including the leatherback turtle
* Red Spruce adaptation to climate in the Green Mountains
February 8: Sarah Emel, Darwin Post-doctoral Fellow, UMASS – “Grassland Conservation Genomics & Plant Ecology” with a nod to salamanders.
February 15: Lisa Komoroske, Asst. Prof., UMASS — “Genomics in Wildlife Conservation” with special attention to Marine species and Nadia Fernandez, PhD Candidate, UMASS – “Conservation Genomics Research with Raptors” including the Golden Eagle.
March 1: Tanya Lama, PhD Candidate, UMASS
“Conservation Genomics in New England Carnivores” including the Canada Lynx.
Co-sponsored by the Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center
March 8: Brittany Verrico, Keller Laboratory of Ecological Genomics, UVM
